Dear Goutpal, currently I’m experienceing a gout attack. My question is, in the past 2 months I developed a bunion and now I have gout around my bunion. I’m taking alopurinol and ibuprofen for pain. I’m pretty much following a gout do’s and don’t diet.
Is having a bunion complicate matters with the gout? Is the bunion reversible? Is there a better (more effective) medication other than Alopurinol? Thank you for being there for us afflicted by this disease! Sincerely, Fred

    Fred,

I believe the most effective medication for gout is allopurinol. There are alternatives for people who cannot tolerate allopurinol, but this seems not to be the case for you.

Allopurinol is only effective if it makes your uric acid safe. Please tell me your latest uric acid test results, and I can advise you better.
